ColorsNW Magazine Writer’s Guidelines

ColorsNW is the only award-winning, multicultural publication in Seattle and surrounding areas. Each month we focus on thought-provoking content ranging from business profiles, health issues, social justice, entertainment and ethnic food reviews - offering fresh perspectives and news for and about people of color in the Northwest.

Mission Statement

ColorsNW's mission is to illuminate issues relevant to communities of color through high-quality, enlightening and thought-provoking content. Integrity, professionalism and dedication to open and balanced dialogues will be our guides. Through educations and exposure we will foster pride and mutual respect among people of all cultures and ethnicities.

What We Look For

ColorsNW is looking for quality freelancers of color who can tackle complex story subjects, particularly on social-justice issues, with a compelling, creative writing style.  ColorsNW is continuing efforts to diversify our stories, including business profiles, sports features, music profiles, etc., as well as ensuring geographic diversity. We look for strong reportage and interviewing skills, well-written prose (in AP style), an informational element (if applicable), a compelling and focused narrative, and timely articles. We also welcome edgier material including humor pieces and commentaries.

ColorsNW welcomes submissions from outside writers and/or freelancers. Most of the articles we print are written by freelancers. Please familiarize yourself with the magazine to get an idea of what we cover. Most of our articles are by assignment, but we welcome queries from writers and look for writers with a well-honed understanding of our subject matter.

We also occasionally feature op-ed pieces from the community which are unpaid.
